A full body cavity search for all people plus luggage traveling on separate planes in heavy armor is the answer. As this is too absurd, I suggest we develop a Peace Dept., spending a measly 1% of current "Defense Dept" and Homeland Security and try to make friends rather than develop enemies out of the thousands who want to destroy America. It's impossible and stupid to try and police every little foxhole on earth and I fail to see the sanity in jumping into the quagmire of Afghanistan, Yemen, Pakistan, Iran, N. Korea, Iraq.... I can go on and on! I just hope America wakes up before we spend ourselves into oblivion with needless "security measures" that only soothe the fearful until the next "security breach".

Comment on Getting Old

It's true that, more and more these days, I find myself thinking back to the "good old days". I know intellectually that a lot of those days weren't really all that good, but some of them were really outstanding and memorable. Those are the ones that I like to reminisce. Sometimes a song on the Oldies channel will take me right back to a certain day of my youth and I just wish I could really feel that good again and not just be trying to remember how things were.

But, I think it was Art Linkletter (another name that a lot of young folks wouldn't recognize) that said, "Getting old is not for sissies!" Boy was he right on the money with that one!
Comment on Getting Old

I was thinking the same thing after I heard the news about Cronkite. The shine that with John Wayne, Cronkite etc..just isn't the same as when we were kids. I really don't know most of the actors in movies; I know I love movies and if I don't care to go anymore, something is changing in me and I do believe it is just OA beginning to make itself known, even John Wayne and Walter Cronkite are mortal. It is so sad to not quite be able to get the same feelings about a lot of things back anymore. I realize that the excited, anything is possible, Christmas Eve etc...memories are now being made only by my grandchildren, even my children are too old now to feel a lot of their own childhoods. Wouldn't it be great to go back to the Burger Inn with Nanny and eat as many FF and hamburgers as you want and know nothing of calories and cholesterol. I have never had a hamburger since that was as good.

Comment on Is this another bubble?

In the very simplest terms, I think unemployment is the key to a true recovery in the housing market. The activity this year has been largely the result of the 1rst time buyer stimulus. When that ends in a few weeks, I suspect it's going to be a long lonely winter in the real estate business.

As soon as people have jobs and regain confidence that they will be able to keep their jobs, they will more willing and able to make commitments to long-term debt (mortgage) and real estate will start to truly recover.

Meanwhile, I would simply remind our leaders that a short-term fix to a long-term problem is ephemeral and temporary.

Comment on Is this another bubble?

So what do you think is the solution to the problem about what is going on in the market? Do you have any idea why there is always a redundancy, and that it's just looks better for a while?

Comment on Asbestos Danger in the Home

This is unique information for me. I like it.
Be careful not to include too many big words that the simple folks, like me, might not understand.
And in the "who is to blame section", it's a little harsh on the poor homeowners who made bad decisions. Because, as we know, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Good luck with your new blog!
